The Origin

How a missed
flight changed
everything.

Wander wasn't planned. It was discovered — in a Lisbon airport, between a delayed Ryanair gate and a Portuguese custard tart. Here's how we got here.

2018The Missed Flight

A 14-hour delay in Lisbon becomes the pilot episode.

Two travel writers, a borrowed Zoom H1, and a power outlet behind a café chair. The recording was terrible. The conversation was better than anything we'd planned.

2019The Early Recordings

Forty episodes recorded in hostels across Southeast Asia.

We upgraded from a Zoom H1 to a Zoom H5. We did not upgrade our accommodation. Hanoi, Chiang Mai, Luang Prabang — every episode smells like mosquito coils and instant coffee.

"I booked my flight to Mexico City because of Episode 73."

Kenji wrote from his apartment in Osaka at 2 a.m. He'd listened to our Oaxaca episode seventeen times. Three months later he sent photos of himself at the market we described. That's when we understood what we were building.

Rain on Tin Roofs: Medellín and the Sound of Arrival

The hosts argue about ceviche — Lima vs. Ensenada — while recording from a hostel windowsill in El Poblado. Outside, rain hits the tin roofs. A street dog barks twice. Someone in the kitchen burns toast. This is the episode that started everything.

"The best episodes don't teach you where to go — they make you feel like you're already there."

"I listened to this episode seventeen times before booking my flight to Medellín. I'm writing this from a café in El Poblado."
